Yom Kippur: second chances and a successful 'forgiveness scene'

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

What should be our attitude towards people who have hurt us? Does Judaism believe that they should be easily or automatically forgiven? What if it is emotionally difficult for us to do so? How do we know when others have sincerely repented their wrongdoing? What if they do not apologise or we think the apology is insincere? Does religion create an unfair expectation that we should forgive people who have injured us? And what about a more serious betrayal such as adultery? Can one atone from that? Does Judaism believe in second chances? What are the elements of a successful “forgiveness scene”? This session will address how one begins the work of forgiveness, not as an occasional piece of drama, but as a daily life skill.
